SIR MARTIN DOUGHTY, 1949 - 2009

With sadness, we have to announce the death on 4th March 2009 of Sir Martin Doughty, Peak & Northern Footpaths Society Vice President. Following on from his career as a Derbyshire politician, Sir Martin was a keen environmentalist and champion of walkers, as chairman of English Nature and subsequently Natural England. A full obituary will be included in a future Signpost magazine.

 

MEGAHIKE CHARITY WALK

The MEGAHIKE is a 50 mile hike across the Pennines starting at Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough, beginning at sunrise on Saturday 27th June 2009. The event is in support of MedEquip4Kids (A Manchester-based charity providing vital equipment to Children's Hospitals across the Northwest) The aim is to complete the route within 24 hours and the event is open to all members of the public. It is a team event for up to 4 team members, plus at least 1 support person in a vehicle. There is a team registration of £149 and a minimum sponsorship to raise of £1500 per team. The route is fully waymarked and medical / logistical support will be provided by a professional events team working alongside Rossendale & Pendle mountain rescue.
