NEW FOOTBRIDGES IN CALDERDALE AND BRADFORD
The society have recently funded our first footbridge in Calderdale and first two in Bradford.
The footbridge in Calderdale (above) crosses Coley Beck in Sun Wood near Shelf. It has been completed to a high standard and blends in well with the surroundings. The photograph shows the handover with Peak & Northern chairman Clarke Rogerson (right) and members of Calderdale Council and the West Yorkshire Pennine Local Access Forum. Grid Reference is SE 128277.
Walkers in West Yorkshire can also enjoy a beautiful woodland walk thanks to a partnership between Bradford Council and our society. Two new footbridges (below) have been built and footpaths improved at Sunnydale Reservoir near East Morton on a route which was previously impassable after heavy rain.
These bridges were handed over to Bradford Council's Countryside and Rights of Way Team on 6th May at a ceremony attended by Council and Peak & Northern representatives (below).
PNFS HELPS PURCHASE OF HISTORIC LAND
The Society has helped Hunshelf Parish Council with a loan of £6000 to buy an area of land called Isle of Skye off Chapel Lane in Green Moor. The land is so named for its terrain and wildlife and is well used by the local community. The money was donated through PNFS from the legacy of GHB Ward, the noted Sheffield rambler.
Photos above show Clarke Rogerson (PNFS Chairman), David Horsfall (Hunshelf Parish Clerk), Adrian Littleton (PNFS) and Wyllan Horsfall (fund-raising committee) at the handover.
'WALK SHEFFIELD' FESTIVAL
A full programme of walks is being organised by Sheffield Walking Forum between Saturday 30th May and Sunday 7th June.
