Peak & Northern Footpaths Society (est.1894)

120 Anniversary

Peak & Northern Footpaths Society (PNFS) hosted an event on 27 and 28 May 2017, to celebrate the permanent opening of the Snake Path from Hayfield to the Snake Pass Inn. The ceremony and celebrations were held throughout the day on Saturday 27 May at the Royal Hotel in Hayfield. The purpose of the celebrations was to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Society’s first success after its founding in 1894, to ensure that the Snake Path would remain open for future generations of walkers. 2017 was also the 85th anniversary of the 1932 Mass Trespass, making this a particularly significant anniversary for Hayfield and its role in the long history of campaigning for access to our countryside.

On Sunday 28 May two guided walks took place along the Snake Path, one short and with no significant ups or downs, the other the full length of the route.
