Peak & Northern Footpaths Society promotes the interests of public footpath users. As a registered charity, we monitor, protect and improve rights of way for the benefit of everyone. Whether footpath users are ramblers, runners, dog walkers or just strollers, we’re here to help each other. There is a £100 prize for the first person to correctly identify the location of all the stiles!!!
Our team of over 150 Footpath Inspectors, all volunteers, regularly walk footpaths, checking for problems such as broken stiles. They report any issues to the responsible local authority, and follow up each case to ensure the problems are resolved. Path Checkers also report footpath problems to us, which we investigate.
We often provide funding to assist in the repair of damaged footpaths and bridges. We investigate planning proposals, and our Courts & Inquiries team take action to ensure that the interests of walkers are properly taken into account.
The PNFS Signpost Team erect signposts to aid walkers and help them enjoy the outdoors. There are hundreds across the length and breath of our region, and more are being added all the time. The society also funds improvement projects.
